Chennai Corporation Commissioner G Prakash told reporters that e-passes for inter-district travel within the state Tamil Nadu would be auto-generated and a hassle-free system from Monday onwards.
That will come as a great comfort to residents as the economy is being carefully opened up, he said. Prakash however asked residents to use them for real purposes only.
It is based on the announcement made by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on August 14th that e-passes will be released instantly for all those looking to travel within the state. Residents will be allowed to apply for information with Aadhaar or ration card.
Earlier, e-passes had only been issued after extreme scrutiny by officials of the district administration or the Chennai Corporation. For example, in Chennai, data available until July 21 showed that the company accepted only 1,61,754 of the total 4,92,149 passes that were applied for.
For only three reasons — weddings, funerals, and medical emergencies-passes were given earlier.
